This year there are two summer short courses being offered.
Introduction to Teaching Home Economics
This session is designed to give teachers new to the area of Home Economics the skills and resources needed to get started. The focus of this one day course will be on the first 8 modules of the Foods Curriculum which is taught in Home Economics 8, 9 or 10 and the first 2 modules of the Clothing, Textiles and Fashion Curriculum.
- Discuss and explore the content related to Module 1: Kitchen Basics; Module 2: Kitchen and Food Safety; Module 3: Baking Basics; Module 4: Food and Health; Module 5: Grains; Module 6: Vegetables and Fruits; Module 7: Milk and Dairy Products; Module 8: Eggs.
- Discuss and explore the content related to Module 1: Introduction to Sewing; Module 2: The Basics: Successful Sewing.
Audience: Home economics teachers.
Pattern Fitting and Alterations (2 days)
This two-day workshop will allow teachers to create a self-body model that can be used to do clothing fitting. It will also allow for students to experiment with the technique of draping and clothing design. As well, time will be allowed to solve fitting problems by having participants bring clothing alterations problems to be solved.
- Make for themselves the perfect-fitting pair of dress pants.
- Discuss and explore the content related to Module 3: Construction Details; Module 4: Advanced Successful Sewing Techniques; Module 8: Pattern Fitting and Alterations.
